Bug Description

Having a secondary monitor in landscape mode works flawlessly in 17.10. However, problems arise when I set a monitor to portrait mode.

One thing that happens is when I bring my mouse to the edge of the screen, I see the cursor mirrored on the second screen.

The main issue is when I hit the windows key and try to search for an application. The results look all scrambled and my secondary monitor is displayed in landscape mode with all of my windows.

Look at my bug attachment to see a screenshot of what happens when I press the windows/super key and try to search for a program.

On the left is my secondary monitor in portrait mode. When moving Windows to that monitor, it works as it should, but when I hit the Windows/super key to show all of my open windows, it displays in landscape.

On the right is my main monitor in landscape mode. In that screen I was searching for my GEdit program.

Specs:

    Integrated Intel graphics card
    Ubuntu 17.10

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1729394/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

Yep, that seems to be describing the same issue. They didn't mention the issue window pressing the super key and searching, but I'd imagine they have that issue too.

Yes let's keep the double cursor issue in bug 1724977.

This bug should be about the incorrect screen orientation after hitting the Super (Windows) key.

Doug,

I can't seem to find anyone else having reported this problem already. So could you please also report it here (with product 'gnome-shell')?: https://bugzilla.gnome.org

When done, let us know here what the new bug ID on bugzilla is.

Hi, Daniel.

Posted here: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=789824

The ID is 789824.

May I request changing the title of this bug report? (On launchpad)

I feel that "Activities Overview on a rotated screen displays with wrong orientation" isn't completely accurate because it's not only displaying in a wrong orientation, but there's some graphical issues that is distorting text (as seen in screenshot).

Doug, yes sorry about that. There are certainly two issues.

However bug reports that describe multiple bugs are very difficult to close since you're discussing different things and waiting for multiple fixes. It's usually recommended to open one bug report per symptom. However since other people aren't reporting either of them right now and this is the only place I have no problem with keeping both issues in this one bug for the time being.
