Bug Description
Using the Ubuntu Software application, I attempted to install Synaptic. Once the install completed, i clicked the "launch" button. After about a minute, I was told the application failed to launch. So I attempted to run "sudo synaptic &" in a terminal. That also died, and the processes had to be killed.
I am working with a fresh install of Ubuntu 17.10.

That is a wayland expected limitation: either use first the xhost script, or login with x11
