Bug Description

/etc/cron.daily/logrotate:
Can't find pid for destination 'nmbd'
error: error running non-shared postrotate script for /var/log/samba/log.nmbd of '/var/log/samba/log.nmbd '
run-parts: /etc/cron.daily/logrotate exited with return code 1

came up after boot via e-mail to root

I run ubuntu 17.10 on cinnamon fully updated

samba Version is 2:4.6.7+dfsg-1ubuntu3

Thanks for filing this bug in Ubuntu.

This can be reproduced by stopping the samba services and calling logrotate:

# systemctl stop smbd nmbd

# logrotate -f /etc/logrotate.d/samba
Can't find pid for destination 'nmbd'
error: error running non-shared postrotate script for /var/log/samba/log.nmbd of '/var/log/samba/log.nmbd '

# echo $?
1
