screen rotates randomly on ubuntu 17.10

I recently upgraded from Ubuntu 17.04 to 17.10. Everything went well, but when I boot up the system, my screen rotation was set to left. Then I tried using xandr to rotate my screen, but my every effort failed.
Can anybody help me on the same?

I have an HP Pavilion 14 inch laptop.

What desktop environment do you use? If that's GNOME did you try to set the rotation in gnome-control-center? What happens when you try to change the configuration?

Same thing happened to me when I partially closed lid of my HP EliteBook 8460. Restarted it after fresh install of Ubuntu 17.10 desktop (from the basic Ubuntu 17.10 image running default Gnome desktop). Now it is stuck in the portrait mode. Tried to use icon from the upper corner but with no luck.

*If* you can get the screen to rotate back to normal orientation, you can then quickly try and press the rotation lock button (second circle in the panel menu, top-right) to keep it there.

But yeah I know this makes the laptop unusable. I've seen it happen a couple of different ways.

After the reboot screen is now in landscape orientation (as it suppose to be). I have it locked using widget.

I also faced the issue. The screen rotated 90 degrees. When I executed the command `xrandr -o 0/1` i got the message `xrandr failed to change screen configuration'.
