full desktop screenshot via shutter is not working - garbage image

After a fresh install of Ubuntu 17.10, install shutter via 'apt install shutter'.

Opened shutter and click desktop in shutter menu to take screenshot of entire desktop. Screenshot image is created but it is a garbage image (see attached).

This is pretty sure due to Ubuntu 17.10 using Wayland which is unfortunately unsupported by Shutter.
