Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

Some time after creating a large number of files, nautilus 2.2.20 (in Ubuntu 7.10) starts using 100% CPU for a while, even if no window is open at that directory.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Let a program create around 20,000 small files, in a directory that is not being viewed with nautilus.
2. Wait a few minutes (maybe 10?)
3. Nautilus starts using lots of CPU time for a few minutes.

Thanks for your report, Which kind of files are you creating? empty ones? What's the ouput of the nautilus-debug.txt log? Can you attach it to the report?, thanks.

The files are .df3 files for POV-Ray. Most of them consist of the following seven bytes: 00 01 00 01 00 01 00. The rest (a few hundred files) have 3381 bytes (header 00 0F 00 0F 00 0F + 3375 other bytes).

I thought that I hade to wait a few minutes before nautilus would start working hard, but the last few times I have tried it starts right away.

Where can I find nautilus-debug.txt? I saw in another bug report that it should be in my home directory, but I can't find it anywhere under ~.
