gnome-shell/libmutter segfault when changing scaling factor

Bug Description

When I go to settings -> devices -> displays and change the scaling factor from 200% to 100% and hit apply, the whole desktop crashes and I'm back at the login prompt.

This is a X1 Carbon with a 2560x1440 display and currently I have it at 200% scaling factor, as hidpi doesn't work properly in artful yet.
