Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

From within firefox open a page(any page) and goto file->print. An error message-box pops up saying:

XML Parsing Error: not well-formed
Location: chrome://global/content/printdialog.xul
Line Number 1, Column 1:
^

this is after a recent dist-upgrade from fiesty to gutsy.

This is is actually related to the firefox-webdeveloper package. Uninstalling it fixes the bug. Can print after uninstall.

I CANNOT confirm this on Hardy 32 bits (installed from Hardy Alpha2 CD)
I have no printer, but going to File/Print... from say Google, and then pushing pring, make a small window appearing say 'preparing' and disappearing... normally.

paul@Arcturus:~$ dpkg -l |grep firefox
ii firefox 2.0.0.10+2nobinonly-0ubuntu2 lightweight web browser based on Mozilla
ii firefox-gnome-support 2.0.0.10+2nobinonly-0ubuntu2 Support for Gnome in Mozilla Firefox
ii firefox-webdeveloper 1.0.2+0-2ubuntu2 web developer extension for the Firefox web browser
ii mozilla-firefox-locale-en-gb 2.0.0.7+1-0ubuntu2 Mozilla Firefox English language/region package
ii ubufox 0.4~beta1-0ubuntu3 modifications for ubuntu firefox (default) install
paul@Arcturus:~$

Also, this looks more like a bug on XML parsing than on webdeveloper to me.

I am encountering this (or a very similar) problem, but don't have firefox-webdeveloper installed.

phil@ubuntu-x86:~$ sudo apt-get remove firefox-webdeveloper
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package firefox-webdeveloper is not installed, so not removed

phil@ubuntu-x86:~$

I also have XML parser problems trying to add bookmarks.

My issue appears to have resolved itself upon a restart of firefox, without installing any new upgrades.

I can't guarantee this isn't because firefox needed a restart anyway after an update to one or more packages, so I'm taking myself off the CC list.

I resolved this issue by removing ~/.mozilla/firefox/*/XUL.mfasl and restarting Firefox, following the instructions from ubuntu forums (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=624732).

If you don't have firefox-webdeveloper installed, you're probably seeing bug #194486 in firefox-3.0.

This bug in webdeveloper is more or less "fixed" now, because the package depends on a version of the firefox package no longer available in hardy. So I'm unmilestoning the bug, but am still leaving it open so that it's a visible reminder to anyone who updates firefox-webdeveloper for firefox 3.
