Bug Description

Simply the touchpad doosn't work.
Sometimes i can use it for a few seconds when the OS is just turned on and then it stops. I tried to activate it using the hotkey, but unsuccessfully.
I can use instead my USB mouse, that works perfectly.

Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.14 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the answer.

The issue is happening on a fresh installation. Upgrades didn't help. It happens also with the live CD.

The strange thing is that for a few seconds (less than 10) the touchpad works perfectly, then it stops working.

I just tried using the mainline kernel downloaded from the link you provided but it didn't solve the problem.

Thank you.

It should be fixed on mainline Linux.

Sorry for my late reply.

Linux v4.17 gave me the same identical issue. I could not easily post here at the time because of the AppArmor bug.

Now I reinstalled (x)ubuntu 17.10 on my laptop, and after I upgraded Linux to the v4.15-rc3 from the mainline, the trackpad works perfectly.
