I can't reproduce a problem using Pinta 1.7-development.
Can you please try 1.7-development version if problem still appears?

I can confirm that this is still happening, in both 1.6.x and 1.7.1, on Ubuntu - i.e. this isn't even a Windows-only bug.

That's with both the default mono runtime of 6.8, and with it updated to 6.12, which is supposedly the latest stable version.

mono can be seen to be spinning, burning all of one core, permanently; and Pinta itself is obviously likewise hung and unusable, I assume while waiting on mono.

Could you test with Pinta 2.0?
There were several changes to the text tool's font handling, along with the change to GTK3 and the .NET 6 runtime
