Bug Description

Due to web staff client localization it has been necessary to merge some of the PO files to one. After the merging it turned out that differently translated terms need to be unified otherwise the translation is not applied to the client interface.
However, in some cases the translation varies either due to English homonym which, in particular language, must be translated the different ways or due to inconsistently used English term.

For the Czech I came across conflicting terms listed below (I suppose there will be some more of them in time). I have identified the Web staff client or TPAC templates where the translation conflict occurs and tried to suggest possible new English terms (however, those terms must be revised as I am not native speaker).

The conflicting terms I have identified:

msgid "State" State has two meanings (each of them must be translated to Czech with different term): - "status" of the order
- "state" as a part of the address
Suggested solution: Alter one of the "State" terms (probably "Status" or "stage" or "PO state" for status of a purchase order)
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/acq/common/jubgrid.tt2:79 (state = status of an order)
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/acq/po/events.tt2:15 (state = status of an order)
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/acq/po/search.tt2:45 (state = status of an order)
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/opac/myopac/prefs.tt2:162 (state = patron address)
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/opac/myopac/prefs.tt2:187 (state = patron address) #: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/opac/register.tt2:1 (state = patron address) #: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/staff/share/t_patron_search_form.tt2:101 (state = patron address)

msgid "Name"
In Czech there are two different words for:
- Name of a person ("Jméno")
- Name of a non-living object or entity ("Název")
Possible solution: When the term "name" concerns person, use more specific English term e.g. "First Name", "Family Name", "Patron Name" ...
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/opac/myopac/prefs.tt2:14 (suggested new term: e.g. ""Patron Name" ...
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/staff/circ/patron/t_summary.tt2:34 suggested new term: e.g. ""Patron Name" ...
The term "Name occurs in following templates too, but without need to be changed:
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/staff/admin/actor/org_unit/t_main_tab.tt2:6
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/staff/admin/serials/pattern_template.tt2:36
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/staff/admin/server/con fig/marc_field.tt2:48
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/staff/cat/bucket/share/t_bucket_create.tt2:13
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/staff/cat/bucket/share/t_bucket_edit.tt2:11
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/staff/circ/patron/bucket/t_bucket_create.tt2:13
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/staff/circ/patron/bucket/t_bucket_edit.tt2:11
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/staff/circ/patron/bucket/t_changesets.tt2:12
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/staff/reporter/t_edit_template.tt2:222

msgid "Host"
In Czech two different meanings:
- "Host" used for person as MARC 21 relator terms (translated as "Konferenciér")
- "Host" used for hosting server (translated as "Hostitelský server")
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/conify/global/acq/edi_account.tt2:44 (suggested new term: e.g. "Hosting Server")
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/opac/parts/relators.tt2:1 (relator term = must be "Host")

msgid "Location"
Term "Location" is used inconsistently:
- Originally the term Location has been used for the organizational unit in the TPAC
- However, in some cases the term "Location" has been used as the "Shelving location" instead in the Web Staff Client (which - except of the translations conflict - may be also confusing for Evergreen users).
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/opac/parts/copy_table.tt2:18 (used for OU)
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/opac/parts/record/copy_table.tt2:39 -(used for OU)
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/staff/admin/serials/t_template_list.tt2:46 (used for Shelving Location)
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/staff/cat/bucket/copy/t_pending.tt2:43 (used for Shelving Location)
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/staff/cat/bucket/copy/t_view.tt2:36 (used for Shelving Location)
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/staff/cat/catalog/t_holdings.tt2:104 (used for Shelving Location)
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/staff/cat/item/t_list.tt2:69 (used for Shelving Location)
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/staff/circ/checkin/t_checkin_table.tt2:78 (used for Shelving Location)
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/staff/circ/in_house_use/index.tt2:78 (used for Shelving Location)
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/staff/circ/patron/t_bills_list.tt2:89 (used for OU)
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/staff/circ/patron/t_checkout.tt2:96 (used for Shelving Location)
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/staff/circ/patron/t_xact_details.tt2:54 (I was not able to identify the context)
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/staff/circ/renew/t_renew.tt2:99 (used for Shelving Location)

msgid "Patron"
In Czech two different words are used:
- "Patron" used in the meaning of "donor" or "sponsor" as MARC 21 relator terms (Czech official translation of relator term is "Mecenáš")
- Patron as "Library User"
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/opac/parts/relators.tt2:1 (relator label = must be "Patron")
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/staff/admin/workstation/t_log.tt2:28 (suggested new term: "Patron Name)
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/staff/admin/workstation/t_log.tt2:54 (suggested new term: "Patron Name")
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/staff/cat/catalog/t_holds.tt2:30 (suggested new term: "Patron Name")
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/staff/cat/item/t_circs_pane.tt2:109 (suggested new term: "Patron Name")
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/staff/cat/item/t_circs_pane.tt2:14 (suggested new term: "Patron Name")
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/staff/cat/item/t_holds_pane.tt2:13 (suggested new term: "Patron Name" or "Hold for Patron")
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/staff/circ/patron/index.tt2:1 (suggested new term: "Patron Name" or "Patron Summary" - I'm not sure about the context)
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/staff/offline-interface.tt2:232 (suggested new term: "Patron Name"? - I'm not sure about the context)
#: ././Open-ILS/src/templates/staff/share/print_templates/t_hold_shelf_list.tt2:26 (suggested new term: "Patron Name")

We have tried to identify and merge inconsistent translations (it was much more complex than we expected). I summarized a list of terms that can not be merged. Currently we have identified about 14 terms, that can´t be merged due to different term used in Czech for the same English term.

For the case that the problem could be solved by changing the English term I have try to suggest new English term.

The list of terms is available here: see https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1H_oh_AKypGOXh5jUtkaKzT8Xgxar_dmihhe1jf_uldk/edit?usp=sharing

I always thought that the term "State" in the acquisitions module was not very idiomatic U.S. English. Eva's suggestions of "Status" or "Stage" seems much better. I would prefer "Status", because this is consistent with the terminology used elsewhere in the interface. Eva's suggestions for "Name" makes sense to me as well.

I wonder if this helps with the "Location" issues: https://bugs.launchpad.net/evergreen/+bug/1719375
