Update to HPLIP printer/scanner breaks connectivity

Bug Description
Per Device Manager:
HPLIP-3.17.9 version was installed on 20-09-2017.
Yesterday, Weds. 20Sept17, the HP Device Manager noticed me that there was an Update ready to install. Clicking for the install radio button produced no results. Running the update in a terminal session installed the update. After that installation, I checked the printer and scanner (not FAX) and both printer and scanner worked. This morning, Thurs. 21Sept17, neither the printer nor the scanner work.
Printer Model: HP-LJ M227fdw (or fdew, I've forgotten.)
Pop-up window read:
HPLIP cannot detect devices in your network. This may be due to existing firewall settings blocking the required ports like (5353/udp). When you are in a trusted network environment, you may open the ports for network services like mdns and slp in the firewall. For detailed steps follow the link.
