Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.14 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Hi Joseph,

I had installed lightdm and removed gdm3 and it boots just fine now. Then all other packages were clean because I used it to build a unity7 17.10 remix and so it is running on the 4.13 kernel by default. All other kernels being removed.

If I have time I may try to emulate bug - but for now you can mark this bug as invalid.

regards..

Dale

Here is vid of one flickerty session.

It is itermittent. Some boots will be fine. Othes will be full scree flickering of verbose code. In this vid it is one small flash and several cursor flashes between plymouth and gdm login screen.

I have the same problem running the Ubuntu Beta in Virtualbox with as far as I remember 4.13.0.11. All other Ubuntu Betas (L-, X- and Mate) did use that Linux version too. I tried a fresh install from the latest second daily build of 26-9 with the same result. The symptom is a VM-screen that switches from size 4-6 times and disk and network lights of Vbox status bar died out and we are left with a black screen.
The host is Ubuntu 16.04 and Vbox is 5.1.28.
I can't create a memory dump, since CTR + ALT + Fn is catched by the Host system.

Forgot to mention the other Ubuntu Betas (L-, X- and Mate) have no problem and work normally.
