Bug Description

I'm using Windows version of Inkscape 0.45.

First thing is how the windows behave on the taskbar. There should be only
one taskbar for Inkscape and not for every window Inkscape is popping up.
It's quite annoying to have taskbar full of Inkscape tools.

Second thing is how windows behave in/with Inkscape. In other programs the
popup tools minimize with the program, but not in Inkscape. When I minimize
Inkscape I wish the tools would minimize too but now I have to do it for
all windows separately.

Preferences for these windows behavior is advisable.

I agree completely, I love inkscape, but the window behaviour is
annoying.
Also the stroke & fill window should stay on top of the main program
window instead of falling behind it when content in the main window is
selected.

Window grouping behaviour is not in Inkscape, but actually the
responsability of your window manager to look after. I know in Windows
Explorer you can group windows by task on the taskbar, but apart from that
I think you're limited.

I know I've used some desktop shells where I can group windows and have
them all minimize, or all move when I drag one or any sort of function, but
I'm not sure what kind of software like this is available on a Microsoft
windows platform.

This looks more like a job for your desktop than for inkscape and it is
possible - a quick google search of window grouping reveals pekwm, a window
manager that allows even windows of different applications to be grouped
together.

If windows doesn't allow what you're looking for, I'm sure you've been
annnoyed by it's other limitations - should you be interested in running
linux for easier accessibility, be informed that Inkscape runs flawlessly
there too.

Yeah, I know that it's possible to make sub-windows, like a child of the
parent window in Qt, I've seen it there, Openoffice has context dialogs
that behave like this in GTK (maybe we could reference how this works) but
otherwise, the code to do this might be platform specific and that may be
why it's not in already.

What version of Windows are you using? I use XP and I don't have these
problems. When I minimise it minimises all windows.

Dear tomasu, you said (I paraphrase) "it's not a bug in Inkscape, but in
the window manager".
It really isn't. The required functionality is offered by the Win32 API,
but Inkscape doesn't use it. This is why it's a bug in Inkscape.
CreateWindowEx and CreateWindow accept a handle to an owner window - use
it.
