Bug Description

I would like to request to update the 'jq' package in ubuntu xenial from 1.5+dfsg-1 to 1.5+dfsg-2.

The reason is that the old version is missing the libjq-dev library and headers. These were added in 1.5+dfsg-2 however currently this is only available on Ubuntu Zesty. It would be really useful to update this in Xenial (perhaps even trusty-backports).

I don't think there will be any side effects as the code has not changed.

Hi Jeroen,
I was looking at jq and if we could/shoudl support it more deeply.
As part of that I was checking open bug and found this one.
Probably not important for anyone else in the community since then nothing happened :-/

Also in terms of content, 1.5+dfsg-2 is quite some difference - I think you only really want(de) the code for https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=833213

In general adding new features and even more so new packages (which would happen in this case) is very rare on the SRU policy's [1] terms

Also this is a package in universe and (due to being not watched by anyone, no-one chiming in and so on) is rather old (two LTS back) and unlikely to get such a change.

IMHO upgrading to one of the two following LTS is (as of today) the by far better option.

Therefore in terms of expectations I think it would be better to clearly mark this one Won't Fix.
