Bug Description
This is a feature request. It's common practice in test clouds/labs to reinstall MAAS from scratch but use the same physical nodes or to frequently delete and re-enlist nodes.
When bringing up a fresh MAAS or deleting and re-enlisting nodes each node gets a fresh $random-$random hostname even if that node has been used before.
All of our nodes are assigned physical hostnames during rack and stack and that hostname is permanent for the lifetime of that node chassis.
Depending on the lab we may set the iLO/iDRAC/BMC hostname either during rack and stack when we pre-configure the BIOS during first boot or once the node has commissioned and deployed.
Is it possible for MAAS to query the iLO/iDRAC/BMC hostname during enlisting and use that name instead of generating $random-$random?
The question came up because one of our labs is about to be redeployed with a fresh MAAS and querying the iLO/iDRAC/BMC during enlisting would be easier than powering each system up one at a time, waiting for it to enlist, and manually changing the hostname.
Thanks!
