Bezier tool: connect different paths, attach to unselected?

Bug Description

The Bezier tool should be able to connect two open paths by their
endpoints. With one path selected, choose the Bezier tool, click the
endpoint, and then move the mouse over the endpoint of the other path. The
other path's endpoint should highlight, and a click or click-drag should
now combine the two paths into a new path, and then create a segment
between the two points.

Along with this, the Bezier tool alone, with no paths selected, should be
able to select the endpoints of any path to begin drawing on that path from
that node, just as if the path was already selected when the Bezier tool
was chosen.

It would certainly be a nice feature to be able to connect endpoints together automagically. Of course, this could potentially result in something quite irritating for people not wishing for strokes to auto-join existing lines.
