Failure to import coloured image from PS/PDF file

Bug Description

I am trying to import a postscript file created using the Generic Mapping Tools program grdimage. I am using Inkscape 0.92.2 on Ubuntu 16.04. The import fails to import anything that has colour in the image, and the transparency mask is rendered as an opaque grey colour. Using the poppler import is more successful, but it heavily smooths the image, which is not desirable. I tried converting the postscript file to PDF (using ps2pdf), but the imported result is the same.

- reproduced on Windows 10, Inkscape 0.92.2 (5c3e80d, 2017-08-06) using the internal import option
- also reproduced on Inkscape 0.47pre1
