deformation lattice ala blender

Bug Description

A 2D deformation lattice, like that used in blender to
distort 3D models
http://mediawiki.blender.org/index.php/Manual/PartII/Modelling/Modifier/Lat
tice_deform

this would allow paths to be streched and warped in any
2D direction. it would be great from bending text into
various shapes, and distorting it's thickness at the
same time. it could also be used to create distorted
images after tracing bitmaps, etc.

the good thing about lattices is that they don't
actually change the original image they are affecting,
just the output, and they can be removed or changed if
unsatisfactory, without affecting the original path

to see what I mean, you really have to understand the
blender concept.

I realise that this is probably not possible with a
standard SVG, but it could be incorporated into the
inkscape SVG with a <lattice> container. as other svg
readers would not recognise this, it would be ignored
(I think?), aloowing the original undistorted image to
be displayed anyway.

I would also suggest this for the gimp, but they seems
to have no feature requests :(

Part of this falls under "curvilinear envelope" proposals
