Bug Description

Hello,

I just realized that the rectangle tool does not allow
the user to select the roundness of the corners
separately. For example in Corel Draw, when creating a
rectangle, the user can select the roundness of each
corner separately. (see attached screenshot)
This is a small but usefull improvement to the
rectangle tool that I'd like to see in Inkscape.

Thanks!

I really doubt the utility of this. Anyway, you can always
do that with node editing after converting to path.

Of course that with node editing anything can be achieved.
I'm just proposing this feature request as a time saver.

In Corel, it takes about 10 seconds to create a graphic like
showed in the attachment. In Inkscape, the same took me
about 1 minute. I understand that this may seem derisory,
but increasing the speed and flow of the designing process
is one of the major goals a graphic program must achieve to
be successful among graphic designers.

Thanks! :)

I second this request.

Rounded rectangles come up very often in technical drawing.

If a user is required to invent the feature, they will typically prefer to
find
program that will give it to them.

I can see that rounded rectangles don't seem like a very fundamental
graphical element
(but then, how often do you need a spiral or a star in techichal
drawing?)

Maybe this would be a good point to think about a package mechanism for
Inkscape
with which users could tailor the tools to their needs.

I re-assert that rounded rectangles are important in technical drawing.
They appear far more frequently, for example, than stars or spirals.

Of course the user can construct such objects (they could also construct a
spiral or a star).

This is another situation where a plug-in mechanism for sets of pre-made
compound objects could be helpful. (See also issue 1365445.)

With such a mechanism, the user could tailor their set of compound objects
to their particular needs. Those who need stars and spirals could include
an "exciting objects" plug-in, and those who need arrows, rounded
rectangles etc. could inclde a "general technical" plug-in. From there,
one could imagine plug-ins with special symbols for various special
fields.

Cheers!

I third this. Every drawing program I can think of has the option to set the roundness on corners. If Inkscape is going to allow Stars and Spirals to be drawn (I find it useless, although it could be a good starter for certain things) then it must have a little roundness option. I was drawing up some SVGs for Wikipedia, and found one of a sign with rounded edges, and so it's very practical for this use.

Just to be clear, you *can* make rounded rectangles like those in Travis' example SVG in Inkscape. You can use the Rx and Ry spinbuttons in the rectangle tool's toolbar, or you can use the round node handles on any existing rectangle object. You can even set the roundedness in X and Y separately. This request is for the ability to apply a separate rounding radius for each of the 4 corners of the object, as in the original attachment....

If anyone decides to implement this, one suggested interface would be a 'fillet' tool that allows any corner to have a radius applied to it. That way you could put rounded corners on any polygon or line, even--sorry Stevan :) --stars, and not just rectangles...

Yes I can create with converting to path. But latter it hard to change corner radius or any other changes.

New 'Fillet-Chamfer path effect in the experimental branch (see bug #170149) allows to create such objects (the 'rectangle' shape however gets converted to a regular path in the process, and can't be further edited based on the two original parameters 'width' and 'height'. The corner radii on the other hand can be edited for each corner individually at any time).

Proposing to link as duplicate to bug #170149.
