Latex crash

I installed an update for latex and since then my thesis won't compile again.
I am using Ubuntu 16.04 and I downloaded the tex-full from jonathonf ppa.

The error that I keep getting is 'missing number treated as zero'. However, before update, everything was working file.
Now, even if it managed to compile, it does not show the citations but rather show the citation key, e.g. \cite{abc2020}, it shows abc2020 in the text instead of the authors name etc.

Also, the output console is filled with a lot of errors.
Also, I have removed tex-full several times and re-install it but still get same issue.
I would appreciate any help to fix this problem.
