Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.13 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Try use "linux-generic-hwe-16.04-edge".

That package does not appear as available to me. Perhaps it is because I already update to 17.04?

Can you try mainline kernel 4.11, 4.12?

I tried both of them. The problem persists and touchpad is not detected.

OK, so the commit(s) that enables the touchpad is in 4.13-rc1 to 4.13-rc4.

Can you find out at which release the touchpad starts to work?

Can you attach `udevadm info -e` under 4.12 and 4.13-rc1? Or do you know which driver does the touchpad use?

Ok, so it's the i2c support from i2c-designware:

4.12:
P: /devices/pci0000:00/INT33C2:00
E: DEVPATH=/devices/pci0000:00/INT33C2:00
E: ID_VENDOR_FROM_DATABASE=Interphase Corporation
E: MODALIAS=acpi:INT33C2:INT33C2:
E: SUBSYSTEM=platform
E: USEC_INITIALIZED=8027689

4.13-rc1:
P: /devices/pci0000:00/INT33C2:00
E: DEVPATH=/devices/pci0000:00/INT33C2:00
E: DRIVER=i2c_designware
E: ID_VENDOR_FROM_DATABASE=Interphase Corporation
E: MODALIAS=acpi:INT33C2:INT33C2:
E: SUBSYSTEM=platform
E: USEC_INITIALIZED=8644593

Probably all commits for i2c-designware slave adapter support need to be backported.

Ok, the difference on i2c-designware between 4.10 and 4.13 are quite huge, it's not a good idea to backport those commits back to 4.10, it's quite likely to cause regression.

So I think you should use 4.13 at the moment, and upgrade to Artful (17.10) when it's released.
