preserve units

I'm using Inkscape for blueprints.
Inkscape changes a width of 13cm to
"460.62991", which is a problem, because
it makes further editing much harder,
introduces inexact measurements through
rounding, and makes it harder to read
the code when hand editing it.

It would be great if Inkscape would
preserve all units (also in PS export,
if possible).

I can't install the latest version, so I
don't know if units are preserved
already.

I secon this, using the same units in the svg file would be
a great help, especially for handediting the files later.
SVG even supports all/most(?) of the units, so why not use it.

Thank you for taking the time to report this feature request and helping to make Inkscape better. You requested this feature a long while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering; is this still on your wishlist? Can you try with latest Inkscape release and see if recent improvements have obsoleted your request? Thanks in advance.

This is very much still alive and kicking. It's a long-standing request, too... steps to verify:

1) new document
2) set document default units to anything other than px (e.g. 'cm'), and set up a 1x1cm grid
3) draw a rectangle of 3x3cm (note the size is measured in 'cm' in the status bar)
4) inspect the XML: (either using the built-in xml editor, or by saving out an svg file)
  --- the width and height are reported as 106.2991 (using default px units)
