Bug Description
Please consider having a friendlier printer dialog. My
wife and young
children do not know command line Unix. Using a pipe or
greater than is not intuitive for them :)
Please consider using a printer dialog widget that
allows to choose:
- print to PostScript file (and a dialog to choose
filename.ps)
- print to PDF (or other formats) using outside tools.
(maybe print to PDF using Poppler library see request
1197549)
- print to printer (and maybe use parsed printers
names found from
printcap)
- how many copies to print, etc.
Doesn't GTK2 or any other of inkscape's dependencies
already provide a nice printer dialog widget?
Some similar requests are:
1150805 - Print Preview & Page Setup
840345 - EXPORT DIALOG: NEED EPS, PDF, SWF, etc

I think the plan would be to use gnome-print
Inkscape can be compiled to use Gnome print but it needs
more testing before it can be made the default. (Gnome
print has almost no gnome dependancies anymore and gnumeric
needs it to work on Windows anyway so inkscape should be
able to use it everywhere)
