Bug Description

I did a fresh install of Ubuntu-Budgie 17.04 yesterday. Was not able to update some packaes although I knew new versions exist. Then I changed the theme to material (adapta) from budgie-welcome and after that software updater installed following packages. Note that they weren't available before changing the theme. Software updater kept telling me all packages are up-to-date.

libbudgie-plugin0; libbudgie-theme0; libraven0; budgie-core; gir1.2-budgie-desktop-1.0; budgie-desktop-common; budgie-indicator-applet; budgie-wallpaper-zesty; budgie-wallpapers; budgie-welcome.

Please can you clarify what you meant by "Was not able to update some packages although I knew new versions exist"?

How did you update?

Budgie Welcome would be running "sudo apt update" behind the scenes i.e. forcing an update.

This should be the same thing you do on a first install - its part of the budgie welcome wizard to check for updates.

I was using Ubuntu Budgie earlier and I had latest packages. For example, the ISO dosen't come with the alt-tab switcher but after update the alt-tab worked. But for some reason, I had to reinstall the OS. Then through welcome I installed all the updates that were available. These updates did not change the budgie-welcome version. For that matter I also did not get alt-tab behavior. I also did sudo apt-get full-upgrade, but no updates were available. Changed servers but still no updates. Then I changed the theme to material. After changing theme the software updater updated the packages mentioned in original post. So the bug is that packages should update regardless. One need not change theme for that.

k - the Alt Tab feature is part of budgie desktop v10.3 - that is not on the ISO - that is budgie desktop 10.2.9

When you installed something from budgie welcome it may also add the backports repository for you depending upon what you are installing. So in this case, you installed a theme that was actually in the backports PPA. So by installing the theme you also got budgie desktop 10.3 - bonus!

So, no - you dont - and should not - get the "latest budgie desktop" until you have enabled the repo via budgie welcome. That is standard Ubuntu policy - only get stability and critical fixes.

For Ubuntu Budgie we have given folk the latest budgie desktop via backports.

Thanks for clarifying that. I assume its not a bug then. I think its safe to mark it complete then. And yes bonus is always good :)
