Bug Description

I'm trying to debug a crash of plasmashell and for generating a useful crash report I need to install the debug symbols.

plasmashell is part of the package plasma-workspace, so I installed the package plasma-workspace-dbgsym, but also in this case when the crash happen it complains that the debug symbols for /usr/bin/plasmashell are not installed.

So there must be a problem with the package plasma-workspace-dbgsym.

I've also installed the following packages but nothing changed:

sudo apt-get install \
libkf5plasma5-dbgsym \
libkf5plasmaquick5-dbgsym \
libplasma-geolocation-interface5-dbgsym \
libplasma3-dbgsym \
plasma-dataengines-addons-dbgsym \
plasma-desktop-dbgsym \
plasma-desktop-dbgsym \
plasma-discover-dbgsym \
plasma-framework-dbgsym \
plasma-framework-dbgsym \
plasma-integration-dbgsym \
plasma-nm-dbgsym \
plasma-pa-dbgsym \
plasma-runner-telepathy-contact-dbgsym \
plasma-runners-addons-dbgsym \
plasma-scriptengine-javascript-dbgsym \
plasma-widgets-addons-dbgsym \
plasma-workspace-dbgsym \
plasma-workspace-dbgsym \

sudo apt-get install \
libqt5core5a-dbgsym \
libqt5gui5-dbgsym \
libqt5quick5-dbgsym \
libqt5widgets5-dbgsym \
libqt5gui5-dbgsym

Encountered the same situation...getting a recurring crash in plasmashell under Kubuntu 19.04 (but only when I've left the computer unattended for hours; it's never occurred when I'm sitting at the terminal). Crash handler told me which debug symbols I needed for a useful bug report, so I found the appropriate packages and installed all of them (including 'plasma-workspace-dbgsym' for '/usr/bin/plasmashell'), but the crash handler still claims I am missing debug symbols for '/usr/bin/plasmashell'.

I've the same problem: how do I get a backtrace of the ever-crashing plasma panels?

I feel like these debug symbols should've been installed by default; or at least get the "install" option to actually work. Otherwise it seems detrimental to the project if a user can't properly report their bugs (and telling them to fetch the necessary packages seems user-unfriendly design wise).

isn't `plasma-workspace-dev` available now ? and this issue can be closed?

Since the problem is with `plasma-workspace-dbgsym`, how would the availability of `plasma-workspace-dev` affect this issue?
