Bug Description

The version of nautilus/Files included with Ubuntu 17.04 no longer allows sorting of search results.

Previously, sort was achieved by clicking on the column header titles.

This no longer works.

It represents a significant regression in the search feature.

Thanks.

Indeed, that seems to be a known issue upstream

Thanks for the update. I've added my comments upstream as well.

Commentary: Unfortunately, I've stopped using Nautilus because of this issue - I found that I used search sorted by modified date so frequently that Nautilus without it became impractical.

Is this getting fixed?
I just upgraded (or downgraded so it seems) to 18.04 from 16.04 and my most used feature is now not working.
Would nemo work better for this?
I specifically want to Sort Search Results in Nautilus.
Cheers.

Any update on that? This should not be a bug in LTS!

Yep, this needs fixing. I upgraded from 16.04 to 20.04 LTS and while there have been some great improvements, what's changed in, and been removed from, Nautilus has been a huge disappointment. Search results are displayed in some crazed, random manner, and cannot be tailored, so when there are a lot of results, it's basically unusable. Because I use search so often, and in folders with lots of files, looks like I Have no choice but to use Nemo until this is resolved.

Has this been fixed in the latest ubuntu 22.04 lts?

If it has been fixed I cant find confirmation of it, the search for answers has been frustrating.

Thanks to rickywales who mentioned "nemo" in his post on 2018-06-24, which I've installed and seem to have the search sort function I deserve, NAY, we all deserve!

I try to resist posting anything on these sort of sites, so apologies for any issues I cause by doing so.

I mainly wanted to thank rickywales.
