Bug Description

I know that in bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/gcc-arm-embedded/+bug/1423461 I asked you to add the key 'InstallFolder', but I'm afraid I made a mistake, the correct Microsoft key is named

    InstallLocation

Please update your setup to use the correct key name.

Thank you,

Liviu

Hi Liviu, thanks for taking the time to raise the bug. Could you point me at where Microsoft say that InstallLocation is preferred please?

that's a good question!

I'm not a Microsoft specialist, so I do not really know where to search for. but, if I remember right, Microsoft requires only the uninstall keys, and in the list of uninstall keys, there is one named "InstallLocation".

the key used in the install section might be optional, to help applications like IDEs to identify existing software.

if you do not find the exact specs, you may look inside an actual registry for some more or less standard Microsoft applications, I guess you will find "InstallLocation".

The closest I could find to a documentation of InstallLocation is https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa372105(v=vs.85).aspx

I don't think this says it is the standard location for Windows application though, I think it says that's what Microsoft applications uses.

Changed in gcc-arm-embedded:
status: New → Confirmed
importance: Undecided → Low
