Thanks for the report Grummfy. Is chromium crashing reliably/regularly at startup, or was that a one-off?

If the former, can you please install the debug symbols and launch chromium from a terminal, that should produce a more verbose stacktrace that we can use as a starting point for further investigation. To install debug symbols for chromium, you will need to enable ddeb repositories (see instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Debug%20Symbol%20Packages#Getting_-dbgsym.ddeb_packages) and then do:

    sudo apt install chromium-browser-dbgsym

Thanks in advance!

Hi,
so, after some change I see that when I launch the browser with "--no-experiments" flag I got no issue. So disable it and it work again ;)

To come back to your question : when it's start crashing it crashing every time (reboot or leaving session change nothing). When I restart with no-experiments then restart in normal mode somtimes it works again. But once it's start crashing it's the end ;(

The flag activated where : chrome://flags/#load-media-router-component-extension Before the upgrade to this version the flag was activated without issue. Now, with the last version I got, it crash when I activate the flag.

In attachments the stack trace from the command

Thanks Grummfy. Are you sure you installed the debug symbols as I requested in comment #2 ?
No need to launch the app with the --debug flag, if you have the debug symbols a complete stack trace will be printed in the console when the app crashes, and that should be enough to identify the issue.

Well I was installed de package but it seems it was not laoded, now I see stuff like that

inside the console, but today, I'm not able to redo a crash of chromium \o/ but the cast to a chromecast (it was for that that I got some flags changed by) was not working too (not chromecast found, but found with chrome).

So now with the actual version I'm not able to redo a crash ;)
So perhaps I will let it live several days and then in one week close this ticket :(

I've tried to install the suggested debug package, so I can't collect a better output either. It's complaining that I'm using an unmet version of Chromium. I'm not using a nightly build or any kind newer than the one available in the official repository - at least that I know of:

$ sudo apt install chromium-browser-dbgsym

The only repo for chromium that I can find on my system is /etc/apt/sources.list.d/canonical-chromium-builds-ubuntu-stage-xenial.list:

Oh. I wondered what «stage» meant in the URL, and looked it up. Looks like it's the staging (a.k.a proposed?) repo for upcoming releases, with unstable chromium builds. Do not have any idea how that repo has been added to my system. Anyway.... Removing it and re-installing chromium did the trick.

@Joachim: do you mean that you're not seeing the crash any longer now? What's your version of chromium now? Please, do not use the canonical-chromium-builds/stage PPA, it's not meant for end-users (and indeed you won't be able to install debug symbols for that PPA with the method I suggested).

@Grummfy: chromecast is fixed in the upcoming version (chromium 59), which should hit the updates very soon, if everything goes well.
