You have an odd looking share definition at the end of your smb.conf:

[<folder_name>]
path = /home/kschindl/samba/
valid users = kschindl
read only = no

I think "<folder name>" was meant to be replaced by something else.

In addition do that, testparm is complaining about your "map to guest" choice:
WARNING: Ignoring invalid value 'bad password;' for parameter 'map to guest'

That is actually preventing the service from starting. Removing the ";" at the end of the line fixes that.
