Bug Description

Hello!

I have the need to use Libreswan instead of strongswan to connect to an IPSec IKEv1 XAuth VPN in main mode without a group. Thing is strongswan doesn't support this configuration, so I explicitally need it. Nonetheless, libreswan is as developed as strongswan and it's widely used.

using config files in /etc (ipsec.conf and .secrets) it's possible to correctly configure ipsec/libreswan, but needlessly to say, having the possibility to manage it via a GUI is 100 times better (and easier for "normal" users).

In the current repositories (Zesty) I only found the libreswan's ipsec binaries (package libreswan), but not the network manager plugin (sources are available on github).

I've tried to compile them, but I'm afraid they use a different path pattern than Ubuntu, so without making changes it's not possible to succesfully install it from sources.

Thanks

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1692066/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

As suggested by user.

According to bug report, this bug's importance should be "wishlist" as this is about a feature request.

@elegos, could you specify the Ubuntu version you are using and which package version you are trying to install?

affects: ubuntu → libreswan (Ubuntu)

Hi Gustavo,

as I previously specified, I'm on Zesty (17.04) and actually there is no network manager plugin for libreswan (only for strongswan).

I know the libreswan's Network Manager plugin has already been made, as it's there in the Fedora distro.

I suggest you file a Debian Request for Package (RFP) for network-manager-libreswan :
   https://wiki.debian.org/RFP

Once the package is in Debian Sid, it will automatically make its way to Ubuntu.

Or if you are able to provide a package, an Intent to Package (ITP) :
   https://wiki.debian.org/ITP

libreswan was added to Debian Sid earlier in the year and it made its way to Ubuntu 17.04.

Upstream in the GNOME Projects network-manager-libreswan GIT repository in the NEWS file, you'll notice network-manager-libreswan was renamed from network-manager-openswan at version 1.2
  https://git.gnome.org/browse/network-manager-libreswan/tree/

Debian/Ubuntu used to include network-manager-openswan, so that package might be a good starting point for updating to network-manager-libreswan.
