Bug Description
When a path is selected and the user then clicks on another tool, the
selection box around the path disappears. When I go to switch colour to
start drawing a new object (with the freeform pen for example) or change an
existing object (with the paint bucket or eye dropper) the fill of the
previously selected object changes to the newly selected colour.
This functionality can become particularly annoying, especially when you
just want to use another item and the previously selected object keeps
changing colour. When another tool is selected it should automatically
deselect the currently selected item to enhance usability and intuitivity.
Attached is a bitmap showing what I mean.
Tested Under:
Inkscape0710181
Microsoft Windows XP Home with Service Pack 2
Dell Inspiron 9300, 2 GHz, 1GB, 256mb GeForce Go 6800
Originator: NO
What a strange idea - losing selection when changing tools would be
usability disaster. The orthogonality of selection to everything else is
one of the basic principles of Inkscape. If it annoys you that you don't
see the selection cue in some tools, go to Preferences and enable it for
those tools, there are checkboxes for that.
