The error in your log is:

/etc/default/grub: line 37: nouveau.modeset=0: command not found
run-parts: /etc/kernel/postinst.d/zz-update-grub exited with return code 127
Failed to process /etc/kernel/postinst.d at /var/lib/dpkg/info/linux-image-4.2.0-42-generic.postinst line 1025.

This shows that you have a locally modified /etc/default/grub file which is not a valid shell snippet. This is not a bug in Ubuntu. Closing as invalid.
