Inkscape crashes when running for the first time

Bug Description

This error keeps appearing through many new releases of inkscape. I just
basically start inkscape, and instead of a program window appearring, I see
the message shown below. I'm using Gentoo on Athlon 1200. Let me know what
other info is needed for You to find the problem.

hi i'm not sure what the hell this email is about but i don't think it's meant for me,where did you get my email address from?because i have never signed up for anything called inkscape??

hi i'm not sure what the hell this email is about but i don't think
it's meant for me,where did you get my email address from?because i
have never signed up for anything called inkscape??

Could you please try to compile again following the FAQ recommendations (http://wiki.inkscape.org/wiki/index.php/FAQ#On_Linux.2C_Inkscape_crashes_with_.22invalid_pointer.22_message) and confirm it fixes this bug?

If your Inkscape crashes on start with the error message that looks like

*** glibc detected *** free(): invalid pointer: 0x086143b0 ***

this is caused by GCC versions incompatibility which affects C++ applications. Your Inkscape is compiled by a different version of GCC than the C++ libraries it uses. Recompile either Inkscape itself or its C++ libraries (libstdc++, libsigc++, libglibmm and libgtkmm) with the single GCC version and the problem will go away.
