we have no control over external sites and there are many places which
publish Unix manual pages and if you ever get stuck searching the web for
"man inkscape" should turn up what you are a looking for.

returns a 404.

Just add a 301 redirect in the .htaccess file?

I have no control over inkscape.modevia.com, there is nothing I can do
about this bug, so I am unassigning it from myself.

I've placed a (temporary, not SVN-committed) redirect to inkscape.modevia.org, just to avoid the dead link.
A proper fix would be to have that page directly built under the inkscape_web tree. But I really don't know how that page get built.
Can someone point it out?

There shouldn't be broken links from the main menu in the released version

The Modevia page http://inkscape.modevia.com/inkscape-man.html works again, so perhaps this is fix-released...

If a version is served from inkscape.org, as (I think) Luca suggested, can i request that it be version-specific, marked, say, inkscape-man-046.html ? since there seem to be several versions of Inkscape in the wild at any one time, with different command-line options...

Looks like it's working fine now. If it breaks again, feel free to reopen. Perhaps if inkscape.modevia.com continues to exhibit periodic 404ing, we could move the script to inkscape.org.
