Bug Description
Getting ready to switch away from Unity, in case it is removed!
The one thing that works for me in Unity over Gnome is the wifi indicator - I have an in-built wifi card (Broadcom BCM43142) and a USB wifi adapter (Realtek Belkin). In Unity I am able to switch off the in-built Broadcom only by clicking on the wifi icon and then on "Disconnect" in the drop down menu for the Broadcom.
In Ubuntu Gnome, the two cards are listed separately in the wifi indicator, with an individual disconnect option. However, clicking disconnect on one card causes both to be shut off.
Similar issues have been discussed before with workarounds from the terminal prescribed -

I would raise the bug in Gnome, the documentation requests to raise in the distribution first.

If you see the attached images in the bug, the in-built wifi card is inferior to the usb adapter, and with both on the wifi quality suffers. I use Unity, simply because otherwise I cannot connect to the net.
