Bug Description

After few hours of normal work, terminal window stops showing it's contents, not always entirely, but with significant lag, 3-4 seconds. Contents appear in jumps, often contents do not show at all. Resizing window makes it show it's contents eventually, switching tabs too.

Switching tabs sometimes produces an effect in which half of tab is refreshed, other half is not.

Different window of gnome terminal works Ok.

Expected behavior: terminal window shows i'ts contents in timely manner and does not blink.

I haven't seen such behavior, except for the probably obsolete https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=730763. Mind you, I was using VTE and gnome-terminal from git, the rest from Yakkety.

Does this lag of 3-4 seconds appear suddenly at one point, or does the performance constantly degrade over time?

One more thing I can think of is rewrap on resize, it's a slow operation. If you have an enormous scrollback buffer (maybe a million lines or more), resizing could be this slow. However, if I understand you correctly, you also see delays when you don't resize but normally use a terminal (execute commands and such). Am I right? If so, we can exclude this possibility.

This is an unsupported release now. Please think to install the next LTS 'Bionic 18.04'

Marking as Invalid because the release is EOL is not correct. Marking as Incomplete. Also, 18.04 is (at the time of writing) still in development, and you should expect some breakage.

Reporter, is this still present on 17.10 or 16.04?
