Would such a field be used just for reporting purposes, or would it need to be be output on POs, invoices, or EDI messages?

Our use for this field is primarily for tracking. We need to know what the vendor's tax ID number is so that we can report it to our budget office. It would be useful to have the tax ID number print on invoices, however. (We don't use EDI, so I can't speak to that.)

For our library, this is a very important piece of information, so we consider this to be a highly important request. Our budget office requires us to give them the tax ID number for all vendors. They will not pay an invoice without the vendor's tax ID number. Currently in Evergreen, we do not have anywhere to record this information.

Thanks for the information. Another question: can a provider have more than one tax ID? (I'm thinking of large ones like B&T.)

I double-checked with the acquisitions staff, but we've only ever seen one tax ID number per company, even when they have multiple different addresses for different functions, like firm orders versus standing orders.

A subsidiary (not division) can have a separate tax ID but I can't imagine
a circumstance where they would be listed as a single provider when they
are so distinct from a parent company (and each other) as to become
subsidiaries. This is all in regards to US tax and incorporation, I don't
know about other countries.
