"Using nautilus, use CTRL-F to filter files viewed (Open Document ods files only)
Right click on any file in the filtered view, and rename it and wait (not long)."

The issue was fixed in https://github.com/GNOME/nautilus/commit/d1876bd6 , the fix seems easy and could be backported to xenial if somebody is interested to work on that
