Inkscape opens with a small window, and a blank page
centered in the window.
Maximise the window to fill the screen, and the page
zooms to the correct
new scale (or near to it, but not exactly the same as
if the fit-to-window
button is clicked), but is translated in the opposite
direction that it
should be. The result of maximizing the window is that
I now see just a
small quadrant of the page in the upper left corner of
the window.
To make matters worse, un-maximizing the window
(returning it to it's
original small state as when first opened) does not
return the page to the
center of the window, so the transformation isn't quite
simply backwards,
but also hosed in some other way.
Obviously, when the zoom-when-window-is-resized option
is off, the correct
behaviour is seen (the page is not resized, and the
transformation is
correct, keeping the page centered in the window for
example.)
