Bug Description

When I start Mail after resuming from sleep, I see only old messages in my inbox. About five minutes later, new messages appear.

I'd love for Mail to show the latest version of my inbox as quickly as possible, and to be clear about when it's out of date. Possible solutions:
- Immediately sync when the application is launched.
- Provide a "sync now" or "get new mail" item in the application menu.
- Show sync status in the lower left of the application, like Mail does with send status, so that the user at least knows that something is happening.
- Support IMAP push so that syncing is faster and less noticeable.

If it's relevant, I use a Gmail account and a generic IMAP account. Both are affected.

Pantheon Mail rocks. Thanks! :)

I am unable to reproduce this on pantheon-mail 1.0.5.

Steps I did to reproduce this:

1. Put my laptop to sleep by closing the lid. Confirm it slept by checking the power LED on my laptop.
2. Sent a blank email using phone.
3. Woke my laptop from sleep and logged in.

I immediately received the email notification.

If you close Mail before putting the laptop to sleep and start mail after resuming from sleep, do you get the same behavior?

Also, if it helps, I often notice this problem with read messages in my inbox. That is, I've read the messages on my phone but not my elementary OS computer. I don't get a notification when the messages do arrive, which I think is normal behavior.

Full steps to reproduce:
1. Exit Mail.
2. Put the computer to sleep.
3. On another device, send yourself an email.
4. While still on that other device, open the email that you just sent.
5. Resume the computer from sleep.
6. Start Mail.

The message doesn't appear in the inbox for about 5 minutes. It's not clear that Mail is out of sync, and there's no notification when mail gets back into sync.
