knutclient does not conenct to the (remote) upsd

Bug Description
NUT upsd runs on a Synology NAS station.
knutclient is installed on Ubuntu Studio 16.04.2 and Kubuntu 16.04.2, from the standard Ubuntu repository.

When trying to connect to the (correct!) Synology upsd IP address and port, knutclient displays "Connection doesn't exist".
(If IP address if wrong (dead), or if port is wrong, it display "Network error, maybe net cable was plugged out." or "No connection with server." respectively, which is ok.)
Other nut clients do not have problems:
Remote upsc (from the same Ubuntu machines) works fine (see below).
The same is true for NUT-Monitor and WMNut, as well as for the WinNutClient (a knutclient-like MS windows client).
