Bug Description

inkscape's own website says Stable release 0.42.2 .
I guess they don't meant for windows oper. sys. ( i
have windows xp, 248 mb ram.)
i used the shape tools fine, the freehand tools
fine, but when i use the text tool, the program
crashed. i open again for the help tutorial and the
program crashed. i open again, drew something, try to
save it into a different folder, and it crashed.
when the program crashed, i thought perphaps i have
to download some additional files besides just
win32.zip. i downloaded 8 of the 10 files (those .rpm,
tar .sig files) i'm not sure which ones i need since
sourceforge doesn't explain to an average
non-programmer which files are required for a
crash-free program.
if this program doesn't crash on windows, please
advise users which files to download. don't group
linux & windows & mac all together. otherwise, just
say that this program isn't for windows.
i'm sorry for sounding so rude, but when a program
crashes 5 or 6 times on every little simple task, i
have to say it.

this is quite unusual, and you know it. even though you are dealing
with beta software (the 0.x tells you that) you can learn from the
inkscape site and the reviews that this program is quite stable.
so what you pretend to encounter is unusual. so, if it were true,
you would be surprised, not rude. so, what you effectively want, is
not reporting a bug, but being rude.

since your report also coincides with a discussion about anonymous
reporting we will simply ignore it and concentrate on the not rude ones.

First of all, clean your windows system. Lots of program
crashes are caused by an unstable operating system. Also,
I'm quite surprised that you have only 248 Mb of ram. It really
isn't enough for XP to run smoothly, so crashes can be
caused by this too.

I can recommend you to do the following:
- perform a deep scan with you antivirus (with updated virus
bases of course)
- perform a regitery cleaning (use http://ccleaner.com/
ccdownload.asp for that.)
- add some ram to upgrade to a minimum of 512 Mb
- reinstall Inkscape 0.42.2 (make a clean install, by
uninstalling the poreviously installed inkscape and deleting the
folders and files related to it)

If after all this Inkscape will still be crashing, make a detailed
bug report (what happens, how can the bug be reproduced,
what are the circunstances needed to reproduce that crash,
etc...)

Hope that helps.

Oh! I almost forgot: If you really want to help, register at
sourceforge, so all your bug reports can be followed and
Inkscape developers can contact you directly if needed.

:)

And one more thing: check that the amount of fonts installed
is less that 400. Windows becomes unstable if more that 400
fonts are installed, and lots of programs begin to behave
strangly if this happens.

First, please search the tracker before submitting a new
bug. This is a duplicate of
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1287763&group_id=93438&atid=604306
and we need for you to post your information in that bug
report so it is all stored in one place.

However, we will need more information from you to try and
determine what the problem is. It would be helpful is you
would either sign up at sourceforge or leave information on
how to contact you.

The first thing we can recommend doing is completely
uninstall inkscape, and install a clean copy of inkscape
.42.2 (the link is
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/inkscape/Inkscape-0.42.2-1.win32.exe?download
). If the problem persists, please perform a backtrace (see
http://inkscape.org/report_bugs.php for instructions).

The information a backtrace provides may be necessary to
determine the specific issue that you're having and to also
to determine if it is actually an issue of ours or yours.
