Bug Description

Report from Bath.ac.uk:

Running Debian 8(.7), the TIDS init script does not create the log file when changing to a daemon, neither does it log any interactions into a log. It seems that the tids-wrapper we wrote does not do what it used to in Debian 7.

The init.d script should be creating the directories /var/log/trust_router and /var/run/trust_router and doesn't (it possibly fails?) and subsequently logs nothing.

At least for Debian, the tids init script definitely should not create
/var/log/trust_router.
That should be done by the packaging.
For Debian do so in debian/moonshot-trust-router.dirs; for Redhat in the
spec file.

Thanks for that Sam. We've had to create the files as well, and unfortunately it appears the TIDS launch script that used to work in Deb7 no longer works from the init.d script. It works when launched directly with the correct command-line.

Jennifer et al, can we have this fixed in the Deb8 packages as a matter of priority? I'll have to add this as an erratum with appropriate fixing instructions to make that work.

Are you using the init script or the systemd unit?

Ahhhhh, thanks for the hint! Deb8 uses systemd! Now I feel like a complete idiot. And of course the logging for that goes into syslog.
