Bug Description

See attached. The selection checkmark icon is much smaller on tall icons than on wide and square ones.

The small helper is only supposed to be used below a certain zoom-level.

Actually it depends on the image width as you could have a small image even when zoomed in (if "force-icon-size" is off. This is so the helper does not obscure too much of the image. But it seems to be switching at too great a width.
