Bug Description

I upgraded today from Ubunutu 15.10 to 16.04.2 LTS. Since the upgrade, I can no longer type any entry into any sort of input text box or area on any web page. I only use the epiphany web browser with google.com/voice, google.com/calendar, and i.doit.im. This problem occurs with all three. I also tried the search box at harvard.edu (just to see if the problem might be site specific).

When I type, a few letters sometime do appear. I'd say about 1-5% of what I'm typing gets through.

I'm not having any problems like this whatsoever with any other web browser or any sort of application.

I should also mention:

I have attempt stopping epiphany, completely removing ~.config/epiphany and ~/.cache/ephiphany, and restarting. Doing so had no effect.

Same here on 16.04.2 , epiphany 3.18.10-0ubuntu1.

It was fine for a while on 16.04, some recent upgrade [ last month or so ] seemed to break it.

I just had a look at what other versoins might be available in the repos, and found the security repo has a lower version:

$ apt-cache madison epiphany-browser
epiphany-browser | 3.18.10-0ubuntu1 | http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial-updates/universe amd64 Packages
epiphany-browser | 3.18.5-0ubuntu1.1 | http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial-security/universe amd64 Packages

I just downgraded from 3.18.10-0ubuntu1 to 3.18.5-0ubuntu1.1 - which has fixed the issue.
So the problem is introduced somewhere between those two versions.

Yes, the fix has been identified. I'm working on getting it into Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.

This bug was fixed in the package epiphany-browser - 3.18.11-0ubuntu1

---------------
epiphany-browser (3.18.11-0ubuntu1) xenial-security; urgency=medium

  * SECURITY UPDATE: Saved passwords were viewable by a man-in-the-middle
attack website. This has been mitigated by moving all existing saved
http passwords to https. If a website you use is http-only, you can
find your old password in Preferences>Privacy>Manage Passwords.
    - Fixed in new upstream security release 3.18.11 (LP: #1661805)
+ New upstream release also fixes inability to enter text in
websites, a regression introduced in 3.18.10 (LP: #1668704)
