Document Properties dialogue is too large to use - buttons off-screen

Using Manjaro 16.10.2 XFCE stable release.

Inkscape's "Document Properties" dialogue box from the FILE menu is too large to use. The window is so large that the bottom half of the dialogue box is off screen. As far as I can tell, there is no workaround that I can find.

You're not really missing half the dialog, but only the last 3 or 4 lines.

But the good news - yes, there is a workaround. If you just dock the dialog (which I realize seems counterintuitive, but it works) you will be able to scroll to the bottom.

I'm pretty sure developers are aware of this, and have been discussing various solutions.

This patch remove the warning message and put it on the disabled Scale Y widget as tooltip

I want to do a simple thing not backported from trunk as a 0.92LTS fix. I also want in the future work over this dialog but for 0.93 and GTK3.

@Jabiertxof - could the warning message be displayed as tooltip somewhere in the expanded 'Viewbox' section, or maybe even better for the (insensitive) 'Scale y:' widget (the tooltip would explain why the option is inactive)?

nevermind, the tooltip is already there ;-)

Patch tested successfully with lp:inkscape/0.92.x r15381 on OS X 10.7.5. The height reduction is not "huge" (depending of course on theme, and GUI font size), but might help to have the bottom-most option accessible ('Display > Use antialiasing') for some affected users with small(er) screens or gtk themes with larger UI elements.

Thanks for the feedback I retain the patcvh and add rolando improvement in bug #1510831 and put here the new patch soon. I hope we can close this bug for 0.92 soon and focus on it for 0.93
