Bug Description

After upgrading from 16.04.2 LTS to 16.10 screen login screen is shown.
Login possible. After login screen goes blank. No mouse, no keyboard.
Remote login using ssh is possible. Looking at processes, all seems normal: processes as expected seem started (attached "ps axfu").

Tried this with a newly installed system on VMware Workstation 12.0.1 -> same problem. Login screen shown, after logging in graphics are switched off.

This is an unsupported release now. Please think to install the next LTS 'Bionic 18.04'
