Illustrator's built in dasharray system generates dashes symmetrical on path segments while inkscape applies the same dasharray to the whole path.
They achieve this by sectionating the path, adding new nodes and deleting segments, so the original path is divided into paths with custom dasharrays covering the segments, and paths with no dasharray covering the nodes with no dasharray.

Feature requested is a live path effect that would calculate the lengths of these "path segment sections" and add the dasharray to them and generate the corners as well.
