Crash during fresh installation on Acer Aspire ES1-132 series laptop

While trying to install Debian 8.7.1 on this new hardware problem reported in Bug#1456911 was seen.

Trying to install Lubuntu 16.10 resulted in a crash follwoed by a prompt asking me to file this bug.
